Union Representing Furloughed Federally Contracted Workers Responds to Senate’s Failed Votes

The following statement is attributable to Hector Figueroa, President of 32BJ SEIU:

“Today the Republican-controlled Senate proved that it owns the Trump Shutdown and is willing to hold the nation hostage as long as it takes to appease the President and his shrinking base.

“As federal workers find themselves facing eviction, loss of health care, and even hunger, Senate Republicans could not find the courage to reopen the government.

“The House has now voted 10 times to keep the government open with no ridiculous, wasteful border wall. It’s time for Trump and McConnell to stop taking hostages in their war against all working people – white, black and brown, native and immigrant. Our members who clean and secure federal buildings are suffering and the devastation will continue if the Senate does not act.”
