PROVIDENCE, RI —Though a few exceedingly close races remain to be called, the janitors, security officers and other building service workers of Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union today began celebrating a resounding streak of victories in Rhode Island this hotly contested midterm. The following statement may be credited to Dan Nicolai, the Rhode Island District Leader of 32BJ SEIU.
“Our members across Rhode Island are proud to have successfully supported so many victorious candidates who are committed to helping working people and ensuring the fair treatment of immigrants, people of color, and all those most vulnerable in our society. We extend our warmest congratulations to Governor Dan McKee for his powerful election victory, and to the state’s newly elected member of the U.S. Congress, Representative-Elect Seth Magaziner, who proved how hard he will fight for Rhode Island with his come-from-behind victory. We also congratulate our entire slate of endorsed candidates who have emerged victorious as of today. Their victories confirm that Rhode Island will remain a bulwark for progress as we move past this contentious midterm.
