New York, NY – The following statement on today’s District Court ruling against the owners of Flatbush Gardens, Renaissance Equity Holdings, to end a 2-year lockout can be attributed to Héctor Figueroa, Secretary-Treasurer of 32BJ SEIU, and the largest private-sector union in the state:
“The judge’s decision to end a 16 month lockout and order Renaissance Equity Holdings back to the bargaining table is vindication for 70-plus workers in a David and Goliath type of battle. The word should go out to Brooklyn and to all cities and towns that bullying workers into accepting unfair draconian cuts to their livelihoods has no place in our society.”
With more than 120,000 members, including 70,000 in New York, 32BJ is the largest private-sector union in the state.
