Philadelphia- Today, 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents 12,000 workers in the city—including commercial office cleaners, security officers and Philadelphia School District workers—announced its endorsements of Erika Almiron and Isaiah Thomas for Council At Large.
“Erika Almirón has been at the forefront of the fight to ensure that immigrants are treated with decency in Philadelphia, She has consistently supported the rights of immigrant, and non-immigrant workers to organize and build better lives. 32BJ represents immigrant workers from 80 different countries and we’re proud to endorse a champion like Erika,” said Daisy Cruz, 32BJ SEIU Mid-Atlantic Director.
“Isaiah Thomas has been in the community for years, advocating for children and strong public schools. We need Isaiah in city hall to keep up the fight so that every Philadelphian has access to a good jobs and strong schools, regardless of their zip code,” said Al Paolone, a 32BJ member and maintenance mechanic at the Philadelphia School District.
In the face of unprecedented attacks on working families from the Trump administration, 32BJ SEIU has endorsed champions who will join in the fight to help more Philadelphians join and form unions. Hundreds of Philadelphia 32BJ SEIU members will get involved political action this year to remind voters, candidates and elected officials that Philadelphia needs unions to lift people out of the poverty.
