Eric Adams and Dozens of 32BJ-Endorsed Candidates Win Big in Democratic Primaries
In addition to the win for Mayor, union-endorsed candidates won 36 City Council seats — a strong majority
New York – 32BJ members members of SEIU 32BJ congratulated Eric Adams on his win for Mayor after their strong support for him on the ground, after the city’s Board of Elections released results on Tuesday night for the final vote count and ranked choice calculations for June 22’s Democratic primaries.
“Our 32BJ members are thrilled that we are one step closer to having Eric Adams head to City Hall in 2022 to represent essential workers like them, and all working New Yorkers, in this pivotal moment for our city,” said SEIU 32BJ President Kyle Bragg. “Our members voted and worked hard to get out the vote for Adams because they know him — he has stood with them in contract fights, in the fights for fair pay and benefits for airport workers, fast food workers, and security officers. And they know he will stand with us for a worker-led recovery for our city, and to keep all New Yorkers safe while ensuring real police accountability.”
In addition to the win for Adams, 36 City Council candidates endorsed by the union won their races, as did Mark Levine for Manhattan Borough President, and Alvin Bragg for Manhattan District Attorney — a historic win, as he would be the first African American to ever hold the post. Members also congratulated Vanessa Gibson for Bronx Borough President and Donovan Richards for Queens Borough President on their likely wins.
Together, the 36 winning candidates endorsed by 32BJ members make up a strong pro-worker majority in the City Council if elected in November.
“Our members are excited to know that their hard work has brought us this historic win — helping elect a majority of City Council members who have committed to put workers first and to work on a recovery that is safe for all New Yorkers,” said Kyle Bragg. “We look forward to work with the new Council and other incoming elected officials in this pivotal moment for our city.”

In the past month, over 6500 32BJ volunteers have been mobilized. 32BJ has knocked on 20,000 doors, and members have distributed nearly 100,000 pieces of literature in targeted electoral districts in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens, and had over 400 member volunteers make direct phone calls to 80,000 fellow union members in democratic households.
