What: A rally in support of the City Council’s Intro 1321, a prevailing wage for affordable housing developments ahead of the City Council’s expected vote on the bill.

 Who: Building service workers will be joined by their union 32BJ SEIU and City Councilmembers Rafael Espinal (bill sponsor), Francisco Moya, Brad Lander, Ben Kallos, Alcika Ampry-Samuel, Ritchie Torres and Donovan Richards.

 ** Workers, union members and union officers will enter City Hall after the rally to witness the vote for the bill and will be available for interview during the rally and after the vote.

New York, NY— Building service workers, who clean, provide security and maintenance of residential buildings across the city, will rally on Thursday to show support for a City Council bill that would require affordable housing developments to provide living wages with benefits to residential workers. The bill, Intro 1321, already has a super-majority if support in the council, the support of City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and support of Mayor de Blasio. It would require a prevailing wage which reflects city-wide industry wage and benefits standards, at most affordable housing developments, with important carve outs for supportive housing and other vulnerable populations.  At the rally, workers expect to be joined by council members who support the bill as well as residential workers who already make a prevailing wage and can attest to the family and community benefits that it creates.
