Flemington, NJ─ Two weeks ago the Flemington-Raritan School Board held an emergency board meeting to open the rebidding process for the janitorial contract that would cut the evening cleaners from full-time to part-time. For the past three weeks workers have worn buttons to work saying “Don’t Part-time Our Jobs,” spoken to the press and given out flyers at the local schools informing parents and faculty about the changes the board wanted to make and how the community would be impacted.
“It’s deeply disappointing that the Flemington-Raritan School Board is turning its back on the workers who keep our schools clean and sanitary, cutting a majority of their hours and part-timing good jobs,” said NJ District Director and Vice President Kevin Brown. “Instead of being a responsible employer, the school board is telling the community that the health of their children, the livelihood of our workers and the local economy of Flemington, where a majority of the workers live, is of no importance to them.”
