Newark, N.J. – 32BJ, one of the fastest-growing unions in New Jersey with 13,000 members, today announced its endorsement of candidate Tom Malinowski in his run for the state’s Seventh Congressional District.
New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District includes all of Hunterdon County, and parts of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties.
“Our endorsement committee, comprised of local members, met with Tom and were impressed with his commitment to fighting for a $15 federal minimum wage, safeguarding union rights and supporting immigrant communities and working families,” said Kevin Brown, Vice President and New Jersey State Director of 32BJ SEIU. “32BJ members are committed to turning out to help elect Tom as a friend of labor and working people who will push for sensible laws that will strengthen our communities. Tom understands that fighting for a better quality of life should be the top priority, and he has also stood up against racism and Anti-Semitism.”
Malinowski said he was grateful to have the backing of 32BJ SEIU.
“I am very honored to have the support of 32BJ members,” Malinowski said. “Workers’ rights are under attack, and the current Republican leadership is complicit. As a long-time advocate for working families and labor, I want to ensure New Jerseyans aren’t cheated out of the wages and benefits they deserve.”
With 163,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., including over 13,000 in New Jersey, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
