New York, NY – 32BJ SEIU members today announced their endorsement of Rafael Salamanca for the City Council seat representing the 17th District in the Bronx.
“Rafael Salamanca has fought for good jobs, affordable housing and to improve police and community relations in his neighborhood,” said 32BJ President Hector Figueroa. “Rafael was born and raised in the district and is District Manager of Bronx Community Board 2, where his work to bring good jobs to the community includes securing agreements to create over 300 permanent jobs in the South Bronx that will go to local residents.”
Salamanca also supports workers across the state in the fight for a $15 minimum wage and is a strong supporter of the DREAM Act. He has also supported the New York City-area airport workers in their campaign for fair pay and a union.
The special election to replace Maria del Carmen Arroyo on the City Council will take place on February 23rd.
With more than 145,000 members, including more than 70,000 in New York City and 2,200 who live and work in Long Island, 32BJ is the largest property services union in the country.
