(Miami, FL)–32BJ SEIU members today announced their endorsement of Dan Gelber for Mayor of the City of Miami Beach.
“Our members voted overwhelmingly to endorse Dan Gelber for Miami Beach Mayor,” said 32BJ SEIU Florida Director Helene O’Brien. “Dan has fought tirelessly for working families, children, and seniors in the Florida State Senate and House. We know he will continue to do so as Mayor.”
32BJ members also announced their endorsement of Michael Gongora for Miami Beach Commissioner, Group 3.
“Our members were impressed by Michael Gongora’s commitment to good jobs in the local community, including a truly livable wage and paid sick leave,” said O’Brien. “His long history of advocacy for working families made him the clear choice for our members.”
Gelber and Gongora represent values 32BJ SEIU’s members hold dear. These include protecting worker’s rights to organize, raising the minimum wage, paid sick leave, immigrant rights, affordable housing, and fighting climate change.
While, 32BJ did not endorse a candidate for Group 2, the members felt both candidates, Mark Samuelian and Rafael Velasquez, were strong on issues critical to workers and look forward to working together to ensure Miami Beach is a viable and welcoming community for working families.
