NEW YORK— The members of 32BJ SEIU congratulate Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Kathy Hochul on their victories in the Democratic primary Tuesday.
“Today is a day of hope and celebration for working families across New York,” said Héctor Figueroa, president of 32BJ SEIU. “With the primary victory tonight of Gov. Cuomo and Kathy Hochul we will be able to turn an agenda that prioritizes the needs of working families into a reality.”
“We look forward to working with these champions of working families to take back Albany,” Figueroa said. “Together we will move forward aggressively with a progressive agenda, backed by a historic coalition of unions, community groups, elected officials and the Working Families Party, that includes giving cities the right raise their local minimum wage, passing the DREAM Act, passing campaign finance reform and taking back the Senate for the Democrats.”
32BJ SEIU ran an extensive voter education drive, with canvasses and street events street as well as phone banks, mailings and community outreach to help these candidates gain support and win.
With more than 145,000 members, including 75,000 in New York, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service union in the country.
