New York—32BJ SEIU, the union representing 175,000, mostly Black and brown essential building service workers responded to the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

“Instead of condemning white supremacists, President Trump reached a new low by telling them to ‘stand by.’ Trump has no plan for the country other than more racism and violence. Not only did Donald Trump double down on his racism and division, he further demonstrated his callous disregard for essential workers tonight by failing to say anything meaningful to address the safety concerns, racial inequities and financial hardships that millions of working people face right now,” said Kyle Bragg, President of 32BJ SEIU.

“When it comes to issues affecting working people, there is a big difference between Biden and Trump. Joe Biden showed that he has a clear plan to help essential workers, protect health care, provide good union jobs and raise the wage for millions of Americans,” added Bragg. “On November 3, essential workers will have the last word when they vote for Biden.”

“I have been on the frontlines of this pandemic for seven months. There is one man on that stage tonight that cares about Black essential workers like me and that is Joe Biden,” said Eve Carlton, a security officer in Philadelphia. “It’s clear that Joe Biden has a real plan to get Coronavirus under control and protect my health, my family’s health and my job. Joe Biden actually respects people enough to tell the truth, which is important to me. I am tired of being lied to by President Trump.”

With 175,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
