32BJ CONGRATULATES GOV. CUOMO ON SIGNING INTO LAW PROTECTIONS FOR NEW YORKERS FROM EXCESS HOSPITAL CHARGES

The following statement can be attributed to Kyle Bragg, president of 32BJ SEIU:

“Our 32BJ members congratulate Governor Cuomo for signing into law Senate Bill 3171/Assembly Bill 264B, which closes an important loophole in the landmark 2014 law addressing surprise bills, and helps protect New Yorkers from having to pay outrageous, unplanned and unexpected charges for medical care. Applying the same rules to emergency care at out of network hospitals that apply to excessive surprise bills  from out of network doctors strengthens consumer protections for patients. Health care costs are rising every day, and we need careful state laws like this bill to help us be more careful stewards of our health care dollars. We thank Senators Krueger and Assembly Member Cahill for their leadership on this issue.”
