32BJ pledges support for Cabrera, Farrar, Gibson, McGee, and Moore, as well as Biden/Harris ticket

HARTFORD, Conn. — 32BJ SEIU, a union representing some 5,000 janitors, security officers and other property service workers across Connecticut, extends congratulations to Jorge Cabrera, Kate Farrar, Rep. Bobby Gibson, Rep. Brandon McGee and Sen. Marilyn Moore in their Democratic primary victories. The union also applauds the union’s endorsed candidate for president, Joe Biden, for selecting Senator Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate. The following statement may be attributed to Juan Hernandez, Vice President of 32BJ SEIU and head of the union in Connecticut.

“Black, brown and white working people in Connecticut have faced historic crises this year, but on Tuesday they experienced a ray of hope as all five of our endorsed candidates won in their Democratic Primary races, and our endorsed candidate for president, Joe Biden, selected Kamala Harris as his running mate. We warmly congratulate Jorge Cabrera, Kate Farrar, Rep. Bobby Gibson, Rep. Brandon McGee and Sen. Marilyn Moore, as well as Senator Harris, and we pledge to commit all our passion, dedication and creativity to ensure these candidates’ election in the fall.

“The slate of victorious candidates represent the best of the present and future for Connecticut. In the 17^th Senatorial District north of New Haven, former union organizer Jorge Cabrera would finally end the incumbent Republican’s do-nothing dogma. In West Hartford, former CWELF Executive Director Kate Farrar would make an excellent new representative for the 20^th Assembly District. In Bloomfield and Windsor, Rep. Bobby Gibson deserves to continue his work as a progressive leader in the General Assembly. As chair of the Black and Latino caucus, there is no more important leader in the House of Representatives than Brandon McGee, who is seeking reelection in Hartford and Windsor’s fifth Assembly District. And in Bridgeport, Senator Marilyn Moore has more than proven her effectiveness as a champion for working people in the 22^nd Senatorial District.

“The diversity and accomplishment of this local slate is now mirrored in the newly announced ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Senator Harris has been a champion for all service workers, has fought to hold corporations accountable, advocated for a $15 minimum wage, and supported a path to citizenship for 11 million aspiring Americans. To a union representing majority Black and immigrant workers, the selection of Kamala Harris shows that America is one step closer to fulfilling its long-delayed promise of equality.”
