Miami, FL—Members of 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union are celebrating a hard-fought victory by Congressman-elect Joe Garcia State Representative-elect Jose Rodriguez. A record number of 32BJ members worked tirelessly to get out the vote for the progressive candidates during this election cycle.
The following statement can be attributed to Eric Brakken, Director of 32BJ SEIU Florida:
“As the first Cuban-American Democrat from Miami to be elected to the US Congress, Joe Garcia is not only breaking a ceiling for future generations of progressive Miamians, he is opening opportunities for working families across the country.
Jose Rodriguez has demonstrated the leadership and the commitment to make Florida a better place for working families. Today, cleaners, firemen, teachers, nurses and other Miami citizens have spoken loud and clear: Miami is sending Jose to Tallahassee and Joe to Washington to fight for a fair economy and stand up to big, corporate interests.”
With more than 120,000 members in eight states and the District of Columbia, including South Florida, 32BJ is the largest property services union in the country.
