NEW YORK, NY— The members of SEIU 32BJ, the largest property services union in the country, today announced endorsements for 19 members of Congress, 49 members of the NY State Senate and 88 members of the State Assembly. Many of the candidates supported by the union are incumbents.
“With seven weeks left before a historic election, our members are focused on more than the top political post in the country. Essential workers like our members want candidates who will fight for them and for all working families, in this moment of crisis, and every day, in Washington, DC, and in Albany,” said SEIU 32BJ President Kyle Bragg. “Now more than ever, we need leaders like these, many of whom have fought to protect the health and livelihood of essential workers, stood up for Black Lives, Dreamers and TPS holders, and will advance a pro-worker agenda for our country and for our state.”

Since state primary elections that took place in June, member committees have screened candidates for federal and state races. Recommended endorsements were approved by members in the union’s executive board.
The union represents about 85,000 members in New York, who work in as residential porters, doormen and women, window washers, office cleaners, security officers, airport wheelchair attendants, school janitors and other building service jobs.
Members of 32BJ are participating in a program to register thousands of member voters on National Voter Registration Day on September 22, and throughout the week, as part of SEIU’s largest-ever voter engagement program to expand the electorate by turning out infrequent Black and Latino voters. The $150 million campaign combines digital organizing tools with traditional methods to connect with voters, including a robust paid media strategy in multiple languages, and is expected to reach more than six million voters in eight key battleground states, where member volunteers will engage both union members and non-members.
The deadline to register to vote in New York — online, by mail or in person — is October 9, 2020.
New York early voting for the general elections begins on Saturday, October 24, through Sunday, November 1, 2020. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
