Paid Sick Days Bill Passes in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh – City Council voted this morning to enact legislation making Pittsburgh the nineteenth city in the nation to pass paid sick days legislation. The measure was backed by members of Pittsburgh for Paid Sick Days, a coalition of community groups, environmental groups, faith organizations and labor unions. Sam Williamson, Western Pennsylvania District Director, 32BJ SEIU, made the following statement:

“The Steel city just got stronger and healthier with the passage of this paid sick days bill. Thank you to City Council, who got it right and sided with the hardworking men and women of this city. It’s a win for workers as we move to keep Pittsburgh a healthy, first class city.”

Nineteen municipalities, including Philadelphia and Montgomery County, Maryland now have paid sick days policies.
