Lowell Janitors File Federal Charges Against CrossPoint’s Contractor

Lowell, MA— Today the cleaners of Crosspoint, one of Lowell’s premier office buildings filed federal charges against Emerald Green Cleaning, Crosspoint Tower’s new cleaning contractor, for discriminatory refusing to hire all but a handful of workers because of their affiliation with 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union.

After years of service, in many cases decades, workers at Crosspoint were let go from their jobs after the building owner hired a new cleaning contractor, Emerald Green Cleaning who refused to hire back most workers represented by 32BJ. This is causing severe stress to workers who depend of their wages to pay the bills and support their families. For the last week, longtime cleaners of Crosspoint Towers have been protesting job losses and demanding justice for dozens of affected families.

With 145,000 members in 11 states–including nearly 18,000 in Massachusetts –32BJ SEIU is the largest property services union in the country.
