The following statement may be attributed to Kevin Brown, 32BJ SEIU Vice President and New Jersey District Director:
“We applaud the passage of the New Jersey Driver’s License Bill (A-4743/S-3229), a law that ensures all drivers in the state will be able to be trained, licensed and insured. By passing this bill, our state is choosing to join 13 states and Washington D.C. that are increasing opportunity for all who live here. A reality of living in the state is that workers need to drive to get to work and keep their jobs, and this bill will make that possible. From immigrants to senior citizens, survivors of domestic violence, trans-and gender-nonconforming people and homeless individuals—this bill will allow hardworking people in our state to drive to work, get their children to school, visit a doctor, go to church and go to buy groceries without fear or struggle. This is good for everyone and will make New Jersey roads safer for all. 32BJ’s 13,000 New Jersey members send our deepest thank you to our elected officials who stood up to support working families in our state— Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senators Joseph Vitale, Joseph Cryan, Teresa Ruiz, Nilsa Cruz-Perez and Nellie Pou; Alongside Assembly Members Annette Quijano, Raj Mukherji, Gary Schaer, Gordon Johnson, Valerie Vainieri Huttle and Joe Danielsen.”
