Newark, NJ— Exactly a week before Thanksgiving and following United’s announcement on Monday that they are going to be spending $120 million to bring fine dining to EWR, airport workers are saying “What about us?” Tomorrow at 10AM workers will be delegating UNITED to tell Prime Flight, a major contractor at EWR, to respect workers in solidarity with Philly PrimeFlight workers that will be striking tomorrow.
PrimeFlight is a Nashville, TN-based airline contractor, with over 5,000 employees, a presence at 44 airports nationwide, estimated annual revenues of $30 million, and a dubious track record. Between 2010 and 2013, the company has paid to settle at least 5 OSHA health and safety citations and has paid $1.4 million in settlements, back pay and penalties for employee wage-and-hour claims since 2005.
Philly PrimeFlight employees are walking out of work tomorrow and striking over unfair labor practices, including the termination of a worker, illegal interrogation of workers over strike and a recent complaint issued by the NLRB. Prime Flight airport workers at LGA and EWR will be holding solidarity actions at respective airports in the fight for better pay and working conditions, improved health and safety, along with proper training.
