New York, NY—32BJ SEIU, the largest property services workers’ union in the country, is pleased to announce the promotion of Candis Tolliver to Political Director. As the Senior Deputy Political Director of 32BJ SEIU, Candis has been overseeing the union’s political program for the Tristate Area for the last 2 years, and since 2015 she has been actively involved in key campaigns in support of progressive legislation including the historic push that brought $15 minimum wage laws to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
In New York, Candis has also successfully led advocacy campaigns in support of voting rights expansions, fair scheduling for fast food workers, a cap on for-hire vehicles, the farmworker bill of rights, drivers’ licenses for undocumented New Yorkers, paid family leave and many other fights to improve the lives of working families in the Empire State.
“Candis is a superb strategist, tireless advocate and effective campaigner deeply committed to defending and expanding the rights of working families in New York and everywhere. We are lucky to have her on our team,” said Kyle Bragg President of 32BJ SEIU.
Candis Tolliver will be replacing Alison Hirsh as the head of 32BJ’s political program in 12 states and Washington DC. Alison Hirsh is joining New York City Mayor’s Office as Senior Advisor.
“Alison has been a vital contributor to the success of our union for over a decade by leveraging her experience, commitment, and dedication to the benefit of working families up and down the East Coast. We wish her all the best in her new role in the Mayor’s office and look forward to continuing our work together in support of a pro-worker agenda.”
