NEW YORK—32BJ SEIU announced today that it will urge its members to vote in the June 26th Democratic primary and to vote for any of the three qualified candidates — Rep. Charles Rangel, State Senator Adriano Espaillat and Reverend Michael Walrond — who would all be champions in Congress for working families.
“Rep. Charles Rangel, State Senator Adriano Espaillat and Reverend Michael Walrond have all fought for issues that are important to members of 32BJ and working families,” said Hector Figueroa, president of 32BJ SEIU. “We believe that any one of them would be a strong champion in Congress for residents of Harlem, upper Manhattan and the Bronx.”
Rangel, Espaillat and Walrond each have strong support among members of 32BJ who live in the 13th Congressional district. Conversations with members of the union, who work as cleaners, doormen, security guards, supers and handypersons, show that they are impressed with the three candidates’ consistent commitment to issues such as affordable housing, quality education and good jobs.
32BJ will be phone banking its members and sending out mailings to help get out the vote and will leaflet and canvass the community as well.
With more than 145,000 members, including 75,000 in New York, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service union in the country.
