Members of 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union are celebrating a hard-fought victory by Senator Sweeney and Senator Gordon which gives Democrats the control of the State Senate for four more years. We would like to also congratulate Plainfield Mayor-elect Adrian Mapp, and Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty for their terrific victories.
A record number of 32BJ members worked tirelessly to get out the vote for the progressive candidates during this election cycle.
The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Brown, 32BJ New Jersey State Director:
“We congratulate Senator Sweeney and Senator Gordon on their magnificent victory, which is a win for the working men and women of New Jersey. Senator Sweeney and Senator Gordon are the kind of committed legislators who we need to send to Trenton and who can stand up to a governor that time after time has opposed policies to help create family-sustaining jobs. New Jersey needs real champions of working families like Sweeney and Gordon and Mayors like Adrian Mapp and Tim Dougherty. In addition, with overwhelming support for a long overdue increase in the state minimum wage, New Jersey sent a message to the rest of the country: Working poor should be a contradiction in terms.”
