32BJ SEIU Commends PA Supreme Court’s Decisions on Soda Tax and Cash Assistance

The following statement can be attributed to Gabe Morgan, Vice President of 32BJ SEIU.

“In stark contrast to the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent rulings against working families, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court today rejected the efforts of corporate special interests to keep working families stuck in poverty. Not only will the soda tax decision allow Philadelphia to provide access to pre-k and safe rec centers for thousands of children, it sends a clear message that Pennsylvania’s voters will not be preempted by corporate special interests who try to silence them. In reversing course on cash assistance, The PA Supreme Court recognized that the heartlessness of the Corbett administration belongs buried in the past. While the US Supreme Court is now wholly-owned by corporate America, the PA Supreme Court is still representing the interests of the people.”

With 163,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
