32BJ SEIU Statement on Airport Strike Averted

The following statement is attributable to Gabe Morgan, Vice President and PA Director, 32BJ SEIU:

We thank Mayor Kenney and Governor Wolf for convening meetings between American Airlines and 32BJ SEIU. American Airlines has committed to ensuring that subcontracted workers have a fair process to form their union.

Over the next few days, we will work with American Airlines to reach an agreement where workers’ rights are respected and the airport runs smoothly.

For three years, airport workers have been fighting for $15 and a union. We look forward to a new era where airport workers, subcontractors and the airlines are all able prosper.

We are grateful for the leadership of Mayor Kenney and Governor Wolf on behalf of workers. We are moved by the clergy members of POWER who, just yesterday, took arrest to defend workers’ rights. We are grateful for the incredible outpouring of support from DNC delegates across the country, and the leadership of Congressman Bob Brady.

With 155,000 members in eleven states and Washington, D.C., 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country.
