HYATTSVILLE, Md. -- One of the people who died in the Metro crash leaves behind six children.
Ana Fernandez, who was on her way to a part-time, night job when the accident happened, worked as an office cleaner at Columbia Square. Her children are 21, 18, 14, 12, 11 and 1 1/2 years old.
Friends gathered at National Wesleyan Church on Riggs Road Tuesday night to remember her.
Jessica Guillen says Fernandez was like a mother to her.
"I'm trying to be strong. There's nothing else you can do," she says.
Guillen is returning the favor by helping watch at least two of her children.
Jaime Contreras says Fernandez was a union member of 32 BJ SEIU, which represents property service workers.
He says her fellow co-workers and supervisors are grieving over her death."She leaves behind six children," he says.
"There's a lot of stuff they're going to be needing. It's a sad thing for the whole family.
Contreras describes Fernandez as "good lady. She was trying to help one of her fellow churchgoers find a job."
